Cellular damage from intubation

Illustration of the cells composing the lining of the trachea and how intubation can cause damage to the fragile cilia.

This illustration was produced to illustrate the damage that can be caused when a patient is intubated incorrectly or with an inferior product. The illustration shows a sequence of events from a healthy tracheal lining through to the surface damage caused by the tube scraping the fragile cilia away.
